Godfred Darko

About

Godfred Darko is an environmental analytical chemist with research interests in sample preparation, bioaccessibility of metals and xenobiotic substances, environmental monitoring, contamination assessment and remediation. He has conducted research and served as project scientist for various projects in Ghana, South Africa and Tanzania. He has also supervised and provided scientific advice on environmental monitoring and remediation of contaminated sites in Africa including the Safe Water for Food (SaWaFo) and the Sheathe projects in Ghana and Tanzania. Darko is an Editor for Heliyon (Elsevier multidiscipline open access journal), Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (Springer) and Journal of Food Technology and Nutrition Sciences (Cresco Publications). He serves on the review boards of several international journals. He is an external examiner for the Chemistry Department and the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences, University of Ghana, Accra, and an external assessor for University of Cape Coast, Ghana

 

Experience

Darko joined Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2005 as a lecturer in Chemistry from where he rose to become the head of the Department in 2013. Prior to this he was a lecturer at Kumasi Polytechnic and a tutor at Wesley College of Education, Kumasi.

 

Credential

Godfred Darko earned his PhD in analytical chemistry from the Rhodes University, South Africa, where he conducted research on metal pre-concentration using electrospun nanofiber sorbents. He holds MSc (Analytical Chemistry) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and BSc (Hons) from University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
